Curriculum Statement

Our unique curriculum offer compliments the 2014 Primary National Curriculum by cultivating creative learning and thinking skills.

Our framework for creative working is:

  • Creating, Evaluating, Analysing, Applying, Understanding, and Remembering. These are developed with open questions and activities through regular ‘Philosophy for Children’ (P4C) sessions.
  • Common Values Curriculum links with our whole school weekly ‘Manners, Respect and Attitude’ themes.
  • Through the In Harmony Music Project, (primarily a social programme which uses the pursuit of musical excellence as a way to enrich the lives of children and their families) every child is part of an intense music programme and learns to play a tuned instrument. As partners with The Southbank our orchestras regularly perform in The Festival Hall or and the Clore Ballroom.
  • Our Outside Learning Environment, inspires learning across all curriculum subjects Using the natural environment on site pupils are able to engage with the key concepts of outdoor learning: challenge, enjoyment, relevance, depth, development of the whole person and an adventurous approach to learning.

We make provision for Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic Education and Sex and Relationship Education as we strongly believe that it enables us to nurture and develop knowledge and understanding in order for children to make positive contributions to society and become empowered as individuals to face the challenges of the future

We teach the 2014 Primary National Curriculum through a themed cross-curricular approach valuing a broad and balanced curriculum which gives children the opportunity to achieve their potential in any subject area. The core areas of learning are English, Mathematics, and Science, and the Foundation subjects of Art and Design, Computing, Design and Technology, Foreign Language (Spanish), Geography, History, Music, and Physical Education. These subjects are integrated into our topics and have been selected so that we can use the resources, attractions and places of interest that our local and wider London community has to offer.

Topics begin with a ‘hook’ or ‘Opening Event’ and finish with a ‘Final Celebration.’ Trips and outings are central to the children’s learning experience. In addition to this they will have a series of memorable learning experiences, which may include inspirational speakers, key visitors to school, topic themed days, a recreated experience in school or hot seating a guest or fictional character. We use a broad range of teaching strategies that take into account the ways in which children learn in order to foster engagement, motivation and creativity.

In addition we teach Religious Education and follow the locally agreed Lambeth Syllabus which is developed by members of different local faith groups. In our school we empower the children with knowledge and understanding of the major faiths (Christian, Islam, Judaism, Hindu, Buddhism, and Sikhism) so that they can respect the rights of others to hold different beliefs.

Early Years Foundation Stage work directly from the children’s interests. Achievements are recorded digitally and highlighted on our Interactive Learning Diary. Parents can log on and see any breakthrough with learning and even make a contribution to their child’s record.

Teachers devise a Curriculum Plan for the Term to inform parents and carers what their child will be learning. The Curriculum Plans are tailored to individual class needs and interests. Each class is different and we embrace the differences to ensure they are all suitably challenged.

Our curriculum alongside the Primary National Curriculum promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils and prepares pupils for the opportunities and experiences of later life.
